What We Do For the Community

Gammas participate in a wide variety of community service events throughout the year,  from the Light the Night walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to Habitat for Humanity. Our proudest philanthropy event comes from organizing a large public benefit concert, Concert for the Cure.

Concert for the Cure:

Led by the women of Gamma Chi Delta, Concert for the Cure began in 2005 in the gymnasium at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Then called a "Dance Marathon", the sorority established a goal of getting today's youth more actively involved in philanthropy. The proceeds were then determined to benefit the American Cancer Society to reflect the personal childhood cancer experiences of two then current club members.

For the first three years, Concert for the Cure succeeded as a campus-wide fundraiser, donating $33,000 to the American Cancer Society and establishing the Concert for the Cure Foundation, a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit organization. By 2009, the event had grown so large that it needed to move off campus to be open to the entire San Antonio community. In 2010, CFTC started a partnership with Cowboys Dance Hall that has launched the once minor fundraiser into a significant citywide event. Our concert has featured country artists such as Casey Donahew Band, Jack Ingram, Josh Abbott, Kyle Park, and Wade Bowen.

Gamma Chi Delta has donated over $150,000 in the past 9 years and has made a dramatic impact on the lives of the campers and volunteers at Camp Discovery. Camp Discovery is a week-long summer camp in Kerrville, TX for children age 7-16 who are either currently diagnosed with or in remission from cancer, which is also provided at no cost to their families.
